Should I turn my water off when I go on vacation?
Yes. Turn the water off when going away for more than 3 days. In the event of a leak, the safety valve on your hot water tank pops, or water lines burst, having the water shut off in your home will prevent significant damage and a costly repair bill.
Where do I turn the water off to my home?
Turn the water off at the water meter which is usually located in the furnace room.
Do I need to do anything with my plumbing to prepare for winter?
Remove hoses from outside taps and remove any hoses from non-freeze hose bibs in the fall so they don’t freeze over when the temperature drops.
I smell a bad odor coming from the floor drain in my basement, what should I do?
Pour water mixed with diluted bleach down the basement drain once or twice per year.

What is the typical water usage per month in a home?
